COMPUTER/TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

IT'S ALL STORYTELLING,

YOU KNOW.

THAT'S WHAT JOURNALISM

IS ALL ABOUT.

- TOM BROKAW

I would never consider myself a tech expert, but the possibilities it offers have always inspired me to want to learn. Throughout my lifetime, there have been huge technological advances and there are more to come. Here are a list of programs and systems that I currently use on a regular or semi-regular basis.

  • Adobe Photoshop and InDesign

  • Avid Media Composer, iMovie and Windows Movie Maker

  • Adobe Audition, GarageBand and Audacity

  • Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel

  • Social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud and YouTube

  • Dropbox and Google Drive

  • Microsoft Windows, OS X, and iOS operating systems

  • Basic HTML coding

  • Use of Wordpress, Wix, Weebly and similar sites

Until my sophomore year I did not consider myself a writer, let alone a journalist. I did well in English and have always admired writers in various fields, but never saw myself as able to write for a living until I got involved with the Arrow, Southeast Missouri State University's student-run newspaper.

There I learned AP style, how to have my own work be edited and to proofread others' work for factual and grammatical errors.
